Te Ōhanga Mataora Paetahi

Ngaira Harker and Jean Batt both completed the Ngā Manukura leadership training in 2013. Both have been part of the establishment of Te Ōhanga Mataora Paetahi – Bachelor of Health Sciences Maaori (Nursing) at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.

Te Ōhanga Mataora Paetahi is the realisation of a 30 year journey for Maaori nursing and is the only accredited indigenous nursing qualification – providing graduates who are clinically and culturally competent to the New Zealand health workforce. The programme, based in Whakatane, aims to create the next generation of Māori nurses who will confidently deliver health from a Māori world view. The first graduates of the Whakatane-based programme are expected to join the workforce at the end of 2017.
