Portfolios and Professional Development and Recognition Programmes (PDRP) have been a feature of nursing in NZ for over 20 years. As DHBs and many other organisations now have active PDRPs, there is focus on breaking down the barriers to portfolio engagement for nurses by use of new technology. The development of maori portfolio has required a new way of thinking and acceptance of new technologies for carrying evidence, bringing key professional groups and a successful ePortfolio platform together to ensure a product which is suitable and easily accessed for a sector wide regulated profession.
Development of assessment and moderation processes has gone hand in hand with the portfolio to ensure verification processes are built in to the system. Māori portfolio is based on the competencies for the nursing and midwifery scopes of practice. It is not aligned to a specific professional development or recognition programme.
